This year, I am in the pursue of using what I have to redecorate my house. I will have to tell you: transforming something old into something new with just a fresh coat of paint can be one of the most rewarding decoration things we can do to our home. It is cheap, it is fun and it risk free. Didn’t like how it turn out? Paint it again.
For many years, all of the houses I lived in had red as the accent color. The weird part is. I like red, but my favorite color is blue. So, I just can’t explain why red become “THE” accent color in my life. It was time to take some actions. My first action was to paint this old Ikea chair I had in the kitchen desk, and paint it blue with a Velvet Finishes paint I bought for a previous project – remember this dresser?
I couldn’t find the original chair in the IKEA website but you’ll get the idea. I used the color modern. Something different that I did compared to the dresser is that I added the Dark Wax from Anne Sloan. I wanted to look a bit “used” if you know what I mean.
Every time I paint a new furniture, I learn something. In this case, I tried spraying the chair with Shellac. For some reason, I felt that I used 10 coats to cover all the red. Another thing I noticed, was that I had to wait 24 hours for the paint to cure, so the next coat would stick and cover better. When I try waiting just 4 hours didn’t cover very well. This did not happened to the dresser. Since this is a heavily used chair, the wax will also give an extra protection against the beating up it will get.
The picture bellow, doesn’t do the justice to the chair in my kitchen, but I can’t change the fact that I am a terrible photographer!
xoxo,
Hello Mariella. Your blue chair is beautiful. Will you be my valentine?
