Happy New Year!
A little late in the game I know, we are almost on February. I have to confess that I am bad at keeping a consistency on blogging about the things I do in the house. I rather bring you something fun and nice than over populating your inbox with posts that are not interesting… so bear with me, I may disappear for a while but then you’ll get a surprise email every now and then.
One of the things I do every January is to get my house organized. I organize closets, toys, furniture etc. It bring me a sensation of a new start and that I will be ready for whatever the year has to bring. This weekend, I am going to be painting a small wall section of the playroom. It is a wall right in front of one of the main entrance and in a high traffic area. I knew right away what I wanted there. I want a magnetic wall and chalkboard at the same time. So I can put the kids art work from school and chalk a big calendar of the kids main activities. My issue was. I really didn’t want the color black. I wanted something more fun and light. I found out that Benjamin Moore sells chalkboard paint in any color you want. In a BeautifulMess there is an interesting post about this type of paint. I also looked for inspiration and found this awesome post about Chalkboard Walls Ideas. My favorites are these two. Basically that is what I want. Mix art with writing, just not black.
Basically to acquire the effect of magnetic with chalkboard, you need to:
- Apply 3 coats of the magnetic prime. Wait 24 hours in between coats.
- Apply 3 coats of chalkboard paint. wait 24 hours in between coats.
This is an easy project BUT long. The waiting time is huge. They recommend to wait 1-2 hours in between coats in the can instructions but the clerk at Benjamin Moore said to wait 24. The more the paint is cured the better is the result. I am not planning to screw this up, so I am waiting. Patience is a virtue that I do not have, so one must learn how to practice.
This is the chalkboard color I chose for the playroom.
The light one will be for the wall, the dark one, will probably be for a kids table that I am panning to donate to a fundraiser or for some fun projects.
I am starting this project tomorrow, during our first snow storm! I shall keep you guys posted!
